Celebrate Black History! February 1-3, 5-9, 12-16, 19-23 and 26-28, 2014 Join us for our annual exploration of Black History in America. Fifty years ago, the very idea that an African American might be President was unimaginable. But from Africans brought here as slaves to modern-day visionaries who have changed the course of American history, the history of black Americans has been one filled with possibility and promise. As part of our annual exploration, Michigan Café is offering special menu items only available during Black History Month.
National Day of Courage February 3, 2014 (9:30am-5:00pm) The National Day of Courage commemorates the day in 1955 when Rosa Parks helped spark the modern civil rights movement. It’s a moment that etched itself into Americans’ moral history. At Henry Ford Museum, it is also an occasion to explore how Mrs. Parks’ singular act of courage continues to resonate today. We invite thought leaders from various walks of life to discuss the burning topics of the day — voting rights, immigration, social activism, women’s rights. This year, we examine the modern face of bullying and investigate the ways that society and individuals can stand up against it. National Day of Courage is one of those rare celebrations that is both inspiring and thought-provoking. And while you’re here, be sure to make time to visit the bus that Mrs. Parks made famous. It is now a revered part of our collection.
