Teaching Resources abound at the Henry Ford!
By Paula Gangopadhyay, Director of Education

The Henry Ford is committed toward providing unique and rich teaching resources, across the curriculum for educators in grades K-12. Apart from field trips, our website has tons of easily downloadable materials that can aide you in teaching a unit. Are you utilizing these resources in your classroom or for your own professional development?

Saturday, September 20, 2008 was a day of synergy at The Henry Ford when more than 550 educators and their guests participated in the bi-annual Teacher Appreciation Day. Designed primarily as an open house for the teachers, the day offered multiple opportunities to explore first-hand, Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, our IMAX Theatre and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour.

That day, more than 280 teachers became members of our new online affinity club, Club Ed, that offers educators special discounts, tips and tools.

I also had the opportunity to personally meet many of you and share information on many of the major educational and institutional enhancement initiatives going on at The Henry Ford. Dramatic presentations at Greenfield Village, along with demonstrations of the new hands-on activities on the museum floor, enthralled our educators and offered them many classroom enhancement ideas. One of the many teachers who shared their appreciation said, "The Teacher Appreciation Day was wonderful! The day couldn't have been better for exploring Greenfield Village. Now I have to figure out how to fit this with the new 4th grade GLCE's! The Village has grown tremendously since I last visited (about 9 years ago). Thank you for the opportunity!" From Melissa T on September 23, 2008

Our next Teacher Appreciation Day will be held April 18, 2009. Mark your calendars! Stay tuned as we share more teacher resources with you such as information on our upcoming 2009 Summer NEH Teacher Workshops, the new Teacher Fellow program and more. We can also offer "GLCE aligned Resource Overviews" and customized in-services at your sites. I look forward to hearing from you and remember… I am just a blog away. J
