Preschoolers rule during Macy’s 2nd Mondays at The Henry Ford. Storytelling, live entertainment and dozens of hands-on activities related to some of our most memorable artifacts — trains, dollhouses, historic games, even a ride on our amazing Herschell-Spillman carousel. There are seasonal activities, too: Santa in December, Valentine’s Day take-home artwork in February and 19th-century base ball in July (base ball was spelled as two words into the early 1900s). And it’s all free! Give your children’s minds the adventure of their young lives.
Historic Base Ball Games Every Saturday & Sunday June 7-August 17 (First pitch 1:30pm) We think our games are as good as America’s pastime gets. We play by the rules of 1867. Gloves optional, but certainly not preferred. No designated hitters, either, or domed stadiums. We still have pitchers and batters and home runs. But this is thrill-a-minute base ball in the glorious outdoors. Our grandstand is a grassy hillside shaded by dozens of massive walnut trees. We have live, 19th-century music by the Dodworth Saxhorn Band. And every so often, a Greenfield Village passenger train pulled by a 19th-century steam locomotive chugs along the perimeter of the outfield. It’s classic. This is the way we like it. Motor Muster June 14-15, 2014 (Open Saturday 'til 9pm) Make your way to a vintage auto enthusiast’s dream destination: From glamorous classics of the 1930s to brawny muscle cars of the 1970s, Greenfield Village hosts more than 500 gleaming examples.
Motor Muster celebrates one of the grandest and most innovative eras of American automotive history — 1933-1976. For the entire weekend, the streets and lawns of Greenfield Village will be filled with hundreds of classic cars, vintage trucks, motorcycles, military vehicles, bicycles — even a fire engine or two. They’ll all be here, from brawny muscle cars to the straight-out-of-the-showroom cars you and your parents grew up with. Stroll the grounds and meet the owners who lavish attention on these wonders of rolling history. There’s the Saturday night cruise, too, and a live early 1960s dance show with dancing in the streets ’til 9pm. A one-of-a-kind event for cars and the people who love them.

Salute to America July 2-5, 2014 (6-10pm) A classic Independence Day celebration with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra that’s as full of freedom-loving fanfare as they come.
July Fourth is the quintessential American holiday. What better occasion for a four-day party? Picnics, games and festive holiday food from our award-winning culinary staff. Plenty of activities for kids, too. But the centerpiece of each evening is a joint concert by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the United States Army Field Band, Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus, the premier touring musical representatives of the United States Army. Stick around for the grand finale, the DSO playing Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, featuring authentic cannon fire and a spectacular fireworks display accompanied by live patriotic music.

For one whirlwind of a weekend, we revel in that seductively syncopated music that we know as ragtime! There’s music everywhere you turn. You can learn to dance the one-step or listen to pianos cranking out the hits of the era. Better yet, you can find a comfy seat and listen to live performances by some of the modern-day stars of ragtime, including Taslimah Bey, "Perfessor" Bill Edwards, John Remmers, River Raisin Ragtime Revue and Jerry Perrine. It’s sassy, jazzy, hot and live. World Tournament of Historic Base Ball® August 9-10, 2014 Experience the original passion of America’s national pastime! Catch the world’s greatest exhibition of historic base ball live in Greenfield Village.
It’s a championship like no other. Every summer, we commemorate Detroit’s 1867 World Base Ball Tournament with a gathering of teams that play America’s game by those long-ago rules. It is unquestionably the nation’s greatest two-day exposition of historic base ball. This is as good and as pure as America’s pastime gets. Gloves optional. Gentlemanly play always expected. No designated hitters. Don’t worry, though. We still have pitchers and batters and home runs. And for two days, we also have game after game of thrill-a-minute base ball until finally, just one team is left. The World Champions. Old Car Festival September 6-7, 2014 (Open Saturday 'til 9pm) Rev it up with hundreds of authentic vehicles from the 1890s through 1932 at America’s longest-running antique car show. Open ’til 9pm on Saturday night!
For one weekend a year, we celebrate the triumphs of the earliest years of the automotive industry. It is a glorious spectacle, as the streets and grounds of Greenfield Village fill with the sights, sounds and smells of hundreds of authentic vehicles made from the 1890s through 1932. Wander through the village and talk to owners about their treasured vehicles. Watch drivers engage in games of skill, see a Model T assembled in just minutes, or just sit back and enjoy our experts sharing "car talks" while historic vehicles parade past. There’s the Saturday Gaslight Tour, too, and a live orchestra performing favorite dance tunes of the 1920s ’til 9pm. A one-of-a-kind event for cars and the people who love them.

Fall Flavor Weekends September 27-28 & October 4-5, 2014 If you love to eat, you’ll love Greenfield Village’s Fall Flavor Weekends. Come celebrate the glories of traditional American food from farm to table, share in cooking demonstrations and browse the delights at our Saturday Local Roots Farmers Market.
You don’t have to be a foodie to enjoy Greenfield Village’s Fall Flavor Weekends. You just have to love to eat. Each weekend, several of our historic homes will host cooking demonstrations. At Firestone Farm, for instance, you’ll learn the secrets of a 19th-century meal of ham noodles, apples and onions with southern cabbage and Irish potatoes. Over at the Susquehanna Plantation, they’ll prepare a crab gumbo, along with sauerkraut baked with apples, ginger biscuits and cherry pudding. If all that food talk gets you hungry, then stop at the Village Store where they’ll be offering free tastings of our Greenfield Village specialty foods. When you’re ready for a break from all that food, wander outside and wonder at the demonstrations of century-old threshing techniques and plowing with steam and horses.

Local herbs, artisanal ointments, organic spices, heirloom seeds, handmade pastas. Revel in the abundance and variety of Michigan’s artisanal food masters. You’ll also find finely crafted kitchen accessories, everything from handmade brooms and autumnal wreathes to recycled barn wood tables and glass candy. Members of Greenfield Village’s Herb Society will also be on hand, selling a variety of traditional handcrafted creations. This event will take place rain or shine.
Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village October 10-12, 17-19 and 24-26, 2014 (Time slots are every 1/2 hour 6:30pm-9pm Fridays & Saturdays. Sundays 6:30pm - 8pm) Stroll down streets and alleys haunted by over 1,000 carved jack-o’-lanterns and lavishly costumed characters during America’s most spooktacular Halloween event.
Enjoy our historically themed Hallowe’en event. Follow a mile-long, curving path illuminated by the flickering light of hand-carved jack-o'-lanterns and meet classic costumed characters along the way. Feel the chilly whoosh of air as the Headless Horseman rides out of the shadows of Firestone Farm’s fields, and banter with witches, wizards and dancing skeletons. They’re everywhere along Jack-o’-Lantern Boulevard. The good news is that you can bring the entire family. This is a kid-friendly, nightmare-free Halloween gathering.
