Celebrate Black History!

At Henry Ford Museum, Black History Month is a time of celebration and examination, a time of assessment and questioning. Each weekend during February, we explore a different aspect of African-American history, from the northern migration and the roots of civil rights history to the triumphs and challenges of the present day. Activities include music, dramatic performances, family hands-on fun and make-and-take activities.

National Day of Courage

The National Day of Courage commemorates the day in 1955 when Rosa Parks helped spark the modern civil rights movement. It's a moment that etched itself into Americans' moral history. At Henry Ford Museum, it is also an occasion to explore how Mrs. Parks' singular act of courage continues to resonate today. We invite people to share their own experiences and continue to inspire others to take a stand. This year, Jessica Buchanan, an international aid worker kidnapped by Somali pirates and held for months until she was rescued by SEAL Team Six, will share her story.

Civil War Remembrance

During this Memorial Day weekend, we invite you to become a part of living history as you travel through a microcosm of the Civil War. Union and Confederate reenactors, civilians, musicians and historic presenters - all in period attire - are eager to immerse you in this important American era. Activities taking place in Greenfield Village offer you the opportunity to learn about and challenge the many viewpoints of the Civil War period. Hear from both Union and Confederate soldiers along with the people on the home fronts as they present Civil War Remembrance.
