Preserving the Dayton area's unique aviation heritage, the Aviation Trail follows several sites beginning with Dayton's Wright-Dunbar Village and ending with the National Museum of the US Air Force. In between, you can see many Wright brothers related artifacts including the recreated flyable Wright B Flyer and the original 1905 Wright Flyer III.

The original 1905 Wright Flyer III is housed in Wright Hall at this unique outdoor museum. The Flyer III was restored under the personal direction of Orville Wright. Next door, is a replica of the Wright Cycle Shop in which the brothers built the first airplane.

The successful development of powered, heavier-than-air, human-controlled flight occurred around Dayton, Ohio. This new park, established in 1992 as part of the National Park Service, preserves this legacy by incorporating the sites across the city associated with the Wright Brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Includes: Wright Cycle Company-restored building used for Wrights' businesses from 1895 to 1897, Hoover Block-site of the Wright printing business from 1890 to 1895, Dunbar House State Memorial-restored home of the African-American poet and business associate of Wright and Wright Job Printers, Wright Flyer III at Carillon Historical Park, and Huffman Prairie Flying Field-location of the Wrights' hangar, landing field, and later flight school.

The original Wright Cycle Shop and the house at 7 Hawthorn Street (where the brothers lived with their father and their sister Katharine during their period of aeronautic invention) are located in Greenfield Village. Henry Ford moved these structures from their original site in Dayton, Ohio to Greenfield Village in 1937-1938.

The Library's focus on early aeronautics stems from the university being a living memorial to Orville and Wilbur Wright. In 1975, WSU was chosen as the repository for the Wright Brothers Collection which comprises over 6000 items and is one of the most complete records of the Wrights' life and work. In addition, the archives holds over seventy other manuscript collections relating to the history of flight. The web site features links to online finding aids for all major collections held by the department including the popular Wright Brothers collection.

The largest and oldest military aviation museum in the world and Ohio's largest free tourist attraction, the National Museum of the US Air Force features Wright Brothers artifacts including the 1911 Modified "B" Flyer and a replica of brothers' 1901 Wind Tunnel.

The Wright B Flyer is a fully operational flying replica of the first production airplane ever built - the Wright Brothers B Model Airplane. The Wright B Flyer is hangared at the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. The hangar is open to the public and admission is free.
