The Car Designed to be Designed by You |
The greatest appeal of Ford's new sporty model, the Mustang, was not its low-price tag, but the large number of options that could be purchased for the car. These options allowed customers to tailor the Mustang to their individual needs. The Mustang and its extensive option package enabled Ford to target many audiences rather than one specific group. The Mustang was the automobile that touched off the entire "pony car" craze of the 1960s, and was the first automobile ever to win the Tiffany Award for Excellence in American Design.
Ford Mustang Press Releases from April 13, 1964 About our Car: This is Mustang serial number one. It was sold to Stanley Tucker of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada on April 14, 1964, and is actually a 1965 model. Original price: $3,334. Gift of Ford Motor Company |
