Dear Mr. Ford:

          This letter to you has been started before--

          I seem unable to find words to adequately express the deep and lasting imprint my short visit with you has made upon me--and so--as I can not put it here--you just must know it is in me--and remain.

          Thank you again sire, for your great kindness and courtesy.  The only way in which I may in some way return all you have given me-- is to promise that I shall make a supreme effort to do some small justice and no harm to the memory of your dear friend-
