Hanukkah: Festival of Lights

The Art of Jewish Cooking. Jennie Grossinger’s popular 1958 cookbook contained only one Hanukkah recipe, latkes (potato pancakes), the traditional holiday food of Jews from Central and Eastern Europe, and the region of origin of most American Jews. Jews from Middle Eastern and southern European countries might eat loukomades (puffs), zelebi (fritters), or other deep fried sweet pastries for Hanukkah. ID.2005.29.36 Gift of Judith E.
