• Getting in on the Act I: The Model T Commemorative Coin Unit Plan (Elementary)
  Using the Model T Commemorative Coin Bill as the subject of inquiry, this comprehensive unit designed for grades 2-4 supports student understanding in civics, history, and English.  By addressing the same problem faced by members of Congress — Should Congress require the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to mint Model T Commemorative Coins? — students will learn about the structure and function of government, as well as the history and significance of the Model T and assembly line.  In addition, they will gain important skills in taking and defending a position, writing a persuasive letter, and exercising their rights and responsibilities as citizens.  The unit includes historical background information, a suggested pre-instructional assessment, seven lesson plans, a suggested cumulative assessment, and a bibliography of text and online resources.

• Getting in on the Act II: The Model T Commemorative Coin Unit Plan
  (High School)
  We challenge your high school students to consider the same question being faced by members of the U.S. Congress: Should Congress require the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury to mint Model T commemorative coins? The question isn’t as simple as it sounds. We ask students to become engaged by writing a persuasive letter regarding the proposed coin. But first they must become informed by considering the history and significance of the Model T and moving assembly line. Although this unit is intended for a civics class, it also fits neatly into history and English, providing
  a wonderful cross-curricular opportunity.
