Airport and Hotel
Henry Ford’s contribution to aviation extended far beyond producing airplanes.
He also advanced the design and layout of airports. He built the Ford Airport
in Dearborn in 1925, complete with a mooring mast for dirigibles and a lighted
beacon to guide airplanes in. In 1927, a modern new modern terminal was completed
there.
The Dearborn Inn was one of the first American
hotels to service airport traffic. Built in 1931,
it was designed in Henry’s favorite Early
American style. A single room with tub and shower
cost $3.50 a night. No liquor was allowed.
