I started drawing cars at 9 years of age in 1953. Some days I would draw five cars or more. All my designs were advanced. At 12 I was with my older brothers at the introduction of the 1957 Plymouth. What a crowd. I was in love with that design and by age 19 (1963) I was working full time on a printing machine and had saved enough ($795) to purchase a 1957 four-door hard top. It was gold and white - I loved that car, but the car did not love me. After some investigation I found out the car had a '56 engine in a '57 body, plus had retreads to boot. Retreads last about two weeks after the car leaves the lot... I washed that car every night.
My parents talked me into selling the money pit and after warning my fellow worker sold it to him. The very first rain storm he backed into a lamp post. From then on he used the car as an excuse if he was late for work! Two years later I fell in love with the '65 Ford Galaxie 500 and sold cars for 30 plus years. I saw lots of my designs manufactured. Strangely enough I have designed furniture for the last 16 years. Yes, I still sketch up to five designs of cars each day. It relaxes me from drawing furniture.
