This 1925 Model T was bought by my great, great grandfather in 1925 in the small town of Rural Hall, NC. The cars were brought into town on trains, then and were rolled right down a ramp into the Ford dealership. My great, great grandpa bought it there for $500.00 and it has been passed down through the men in my family until May of 2011. My dad gave it to me last year for my birthday and insisted that I drive it for the first time. I did drive it and can I say I have driven it, but prefer not to. Too much pressure!
I grew up going to car shows with the T Model, as we always called it. I will always remember the look on old folks' faces when they'd see it. They'd recount their first "courting" days and they would share their stories about similar cars. At those car shows, my dad would display all the license tags that were ever used on it back in its day. Each year they would get a new license tag and my family always kept them. My dad's father, Papa Bob to me, sewed display cases to put the tags in for the car shows we'd go to. My dad, Terry Griffin, won so many trophies and plaques from car shows that we can't even count. After my great, great grandpa gave it to my great Uncle Gill, it stayed parked in an old barn that stood on Griffin Road for many years. It was driven daily until 1965.
Since it's been passed to me, my husband drives us up to our local Food Lion to get groceries when it's warm enough. Instead of a suitcase in the luggage rack, we bring home Mountain Dew and Pepsi cases. My boys always "feel so fancy" riding in it. This old car is one of the legacies of our family - forever to be in this family.
