My first car was purchased new by my Grandfather, in March 1963. I was six years old and rode home in it sitting on the console with my Parents and Grandparents in the car. This was also my Grandfather's last car, as he passed away in December 1963. His first car was a Model T touring car. He told me from when he purchased the Fairlane new that he wanted me to have it when I was old enough to drive. I bought it from my Grandmother in 1971 when I was 15 years old. Took my driver's test in it at 16, and drove it to high school my last two years. I have kept the car the last 40 years and it has 56,000 miles on it.
The car is all original with the exception of routine maintenance items. It has always been garage kept and looks pretty much as it did when new. I get it out and drive it occasionally, and go to a few car shows, but the best story I have about it was when I had opportunity to park it in the same showroom in the exact same spot where it was when my Grandfather purchased it new. I had wanted to do this for several years and opportunity came up this past Summer thanks to the Moses family of Moses Ford-Lincoln. It brought back a lot of memories to have it sitting in the same spot when it was new 48 years ago.
