I guess the best first car to have is the one you dreamed of owning for several years. I was lucky to get my first dream car as a first car. I had liked the Dodge Charger from the first time that I saw one. I love fastbacks and the styling of the Charger was to my liking.
Full width grill with hide-a-way headlights. Full width tail lights. The interior was sporty with four bucket seats and a center console. Lots of chrome. The interior folded down into a sport wagon. I used to carry a foam mattress and sleep in the back of the car in the summer while visiting Friend's cottages. I loved the instrument cluster with full instrumentation and the electroluminescent lighting.
I bought the Charger in late 1974 and drove it until 1980 when the dreaded tin worm took its toll on the body and the car had to be retired. It had the 383 CID four barrel V8. Lots of power. It was great to drive along the road with all the windows rolled down on a hot day....the hardtop experience.
