There
are 420 maps in the museum's collection dating
from the 1600s through the 1990s. Included
in this collection are a few significant early
maps of colonial America, 19th century tourist
travel guides and railroad maps, and 20th
century maps that delineate carriage, bicycle,
railroad routes, and most specifically road
maps for automobiles. Travel guides
for automobile trips are also well represented.
Other significant holdings include
nearly 2,000 industrial site maps, dating
from 1894 to 1954 and produced by the Manufacturers
Mutual Fire Insurance Company. |
