The
collection of approximately 4,500 books in the Rare Books
collection reflects the range of topics of interest to
the Museum. Originally focused on 19th century publications,
the collection has a comprehensive selection of McGuffey
readers and books published by Noah Webster. Significant
holdings in agricultural practice, domestic life, industrial
development, and technology are included, in addition
to a sizeable number of bibles and theological writings
from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Books on the development of the civil rights movement
in the United States, books written by innovators such
as R.
Buckminster Fuller are carefully considered and added
to the Rare Books Collection. Titles from the personal
library of Henry Ford I are included in the Rare Books
collection, illustrating his interest in history, nature,
music, and industry. |
