The jobs that people have tell us much about
the nation and its history. Over the years, technological
and social innovations have led to changes in existing jobs and
the extinction or addition of entire occupations. The Henry Ford
has extensive collections documenting innovation and change in the
work lives of Americans in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Many of these collections document broad areas such as, changing
agricultural methods, office environments, medical equipment and
computer technology. Other collections, such as the Benson
Ford Research Center's business records, document the growth and
evolution of individual companies, including Ford Motor Company,
Herman Miller, Inc., H.J. Heinz Corporation and many others.
