Since its initial release on December 19, 1997, Cameron's Oscar®-winning film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet has grossed $1.8 billion globally and remains the second-highest grossing film of all time behind Avatar. TITANIC fans and enthusiasts—as well as a whole new generation of young people—now have the very special opportunity to experience this epic movie on Michigan’s largest screen via The Henry Ford IMAX Theatre’s highest-quality 15-perforation/70MM IMAX 3D film format during the Titanic’s Centennial year of tribute and remembrance.

The release of TITANIC has been painstakingly re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D 15/70 Film Experience with proprietary IMAX technology and will immerse the moviegoer into the vast grandeur of TITANIC further than any other theatre in Michigan is capable of. The crystal-clear images and powerful digital audio, coupled with The Henry Ford IMAX Theatre’s 62-foot-tall by 85-foot-wide screen create the best-possible 3D environment that will not only make audiences feel as if they are in the movie, but they will feel as if they are actually on board the real Titanic along with the film’s characters.

Written, directed and produced by James Cameron, TITANIC is one of only three films to have received a record 11 Academy Awards – including Best Picture and Best Director. The epic film launched the careers of its stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. It held the number one box office slot for a record 18 weeks in 1997-98, and was shown in 56 different countries. James Cameron, a visionary filmmaker whose name is now synonymous with high-quality 3D images, masterfully harnessed the power of present-day technology to elevate the Titanic story to another level by meticulously re-mastering the film into IMAX 3D—every scene and every shot, frame-by-frame. The painstaking conversion process took Cameron an entire year to complete and cost about $20 million. The most extensive 2D-to-IMAX 3D conversion ever was nothing short of exhaustive for Cameron. "It was like mowing the lawn with a toenail clipper”, he said.
