How is the Rosa Parks bus project being funded?

To purchase the bus, the Museum drew funds from a special endowment reserved for the acquisition of historical objects for the collection.

To celebrate the 46th anniversary of the event and to reunite Mrs. Parks with the bus, The Henry Ford collaborated with the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development to host a reception on December 1, 2001. Funds raised specifically through this event were part of a special initiative to support both the museum and the institute. Generous donations were made by Delphi Automotive Systems, Ford Motor Company Fund, DaimlerChrysler Fund, National City Bank, United Auto Workers, and various individuals.

In a separate and individual action, The Henry Ford submitted a federal funding application in April, 2002, to the Save America’s Treasures program administered by the National Park Service. A grant from this prestigious program was awarded to HFM&GV in October, 2002 to help defray the cost of restoring the bus.
