By the 1890s, factory-made clothing was available for men, women and children. Purchasing ready-made goods saved time and effort—but was usually more expensive than buying the fabric and sewing the garments oneself. Notice the advertisement at the bottom left—then, as now, merchants suggested other related merchandise to tempt the buyer to make an additional purchase. THF119791
