I am standing by my first car, a 1949 Dodge four-door sedan. I bought it in 1955, just before beginning my second year of college. I paid $500 for the car. (This was equal to 180 pounds or DM 2,100 in 1955).
The car had a little over 30,000 miles (50,000 km). It had a gear shift lever and a semi-automatic transmission. Dodge models looked about the same from 1949 to 1952.
I do not know where this photo was taken, but it had to be close to home in northern New Jersey. I suspect that it was just after I bought it, or even while I was test-driving. My father is in the passenger seat. I remember that my license plate was FO 62 U, so this may have been the previous owner's plate.
