Sr. BranquinhuH° ©I had saved up $1,700 and was ready to buy my first car. It was 1979 when I found a Chevette listed for sale in The Flint Journal. As soon as I saw it, I wanted that 1977 Chevette with Brown Metallic Paint and tan vinyl seats, just beautiful.
That car took me back and forth to High School. Back and forth to Ferris State for my College years and then took me through my first three years of my career. I put at least 127 thousand miles on that Chevette.
One rainy day, I recall driving through a large puddle in the road, when suddenly water shot up through the rusted out floorboard, past the threadbare carpet and literally splashed me in the face. No worry, I took a piece of scrap metal and pounded into the floor of the drivers side and kept the Chevette on the road for several more years.
I drove that car a total of seven years. The most memorable years of my life were spent getting my life started and putting miles on my '77 Brown Metallic Chevette.
