The story starts back in 2001 when I was approaching the end of an automobile lease with a foreign car company. I happened to be cruising around my home town and a Lincoln Mark VIII caught my eye. I was impressed to see the wonderful lines and soon went home to research this automobile. Looking on the Internet I quickly fell in love with the idea of owning this Luxury Sport Coupe. A quick Internet search for some in my price range turned up a 1994 Black with Saddle interior Lincoln Mark VIII in Akron Ohio.
A few days later I made the about 30 mile journey to look at the car and test drive. Needless to say this was the car of my dreams. Later that week I had the financing in order and was just waiting on the final call from the dealer to pick it up that Saturday. The day the dealer called to confirm that it was mine and that I could pick it up was Saturday, Sept. 11, 2001. I was more than pleased to be buying such a wonderful American automobile that following Saturday.
The Car which I named Mulder and I had quite a few adventures. First was a car club meet in Detroit where it was well received. Later we took a few trips to the All Ford Nationals at Carlisle PA. I even had the opportunity to show my car at the Ford 100th Anniversary.
Of course over the 3 years of ownership I upgraded several items such as the transmission, engine computer, ignition, and air intake. The wheels were changed to replica y2k Cobra R Mustang wheels. I always kept the car in pristine condition and always got compliments.
Then in May of 2004 rising gasoline costs and mechanical repairs forced me to trade my beloved Mark VIII in on a new 2004 Ford Focus SVT. I will however never forget what that car had meant to me. The joy of driving around in a Lincoln, and the compliments that came with it. I will never forget my Lincoln, and hope to someday find another to replace the empty spot in my heart left after I traded it in.
