’72 Duster Twister (updated)
by:
David Lambert
My first car was a 1972 Plymouth Duster. It had the Twister package (strobe stripe hood, side racing stripes). It was an appearance package that intended to make it look fast without having the high insurance premiums attached to it. My dad, Jim Lambert, bought me this car in 1988. We searched for month through the classifieds to find me my first car. I was only 15 at the time but we wanted to buy a car we could restore together.

Since he worked for Chrysler at the Trenton Engine Plant, a Mopar was the only option I had. The deal was he would buy it but I had to pay for the restoration parts. We worked on the car most days after I got home from school and on weekends after work. I worked all through high school during the week and weekends to fix the car up and to keep the privilege of driving the vehicle (Gas and Insurance).

I mostly drove it to work and cruising with friends. I decided to paint it B5 Blue (called true blue in 1972). The original color was a sky blue that just didn't seem cool enough at the time for a teenage boy just entering high school. You can only have one first car and I am lucky enough to still own it. I display it at the Henry Ford Motor Muster each summer with my wife Jennifer.
