Horse Drawn Vehicles:
|
The Henry Ford has one of the largest,
and most diverse collections of horse-drawn vehicles in
the country. There are hard working omnibuses and stage
coaches, elegant broughams, and speedy racing sulkies.
Some vehicles were made by anonymous craftsmen, while
others were made by famous makers like Brewster or Studebaker.
These vehicles were used by many different people--from
presidents and industrialists, to farmers and circus performers.
They were also used for many purposes: the hearse carried
people to their final rest, while the horse ambulance
carried ailing animals to the veterinarian. Taken as a
whole, the collection is a window into life in America
during the age of the horse.
