Political Parade Items:

Drawing on centuries-old Anglo-European traditions of popular culture, ordinary Americans have often used parades to express civic and political sentiments. Parades represent the politics of the street and person-to-person political persuasion in ways not usually covered in history textbooks. The museum has objects as diverse as nineteenth-century lanterns and noisemakers supporting individual candidates, to flags and banners used by twentieth-century civil rights groups, to presidential parade vehicles. |
