The phonograph brought a wide range of recorded vocal and instrumental
music into even the most modest American homes by the first decades
of the 20th century. Since this time, the recording industry
has continued to offer an ever-increasing array of music to its customers,
marketing recording artists to specialized groups of adoring fans.
The museum’s collection contains over 12,000 sound recordings,
the majority of them from the Thomas A. Edison company.
