A
manuscript collection is a large group of papers (manuscript or
typescript, originals or copies of letters, diaries, accounts, logbooks,
drafts, etc. including associated printed or near printed materials,
photographs and sound recording) usually having a common source
and formed by or around an individual, or a family, or devoted to
a single theme.1
The Henry Ford holds a number of significant
manuscript collections that relate to and support its artifact collections
and historic buildings. In addition to the Aeronautics collection,
which contains a variety of materials related to the history of
aviation, these include a number of collections of personal papers
of important American innovators in education and technology such
as John Burroughs, Noah Webster and Thomas Edison. |
