Dictionaries & Encyclopedias:
|
Because
of Henry Ford's admiration for Noah
Webster, creator of the first American dictionary,
the Research Center holds a strong collection of early
English-language dictionaries dating to the eighteenth
and nineteenth centuries. The collection of encyclopedias
includes standard titles such as Columbia, Americana,
and Britannica as well as encyclopedias devoted to specific
topics such as: science and technology, inventors, scientists,
biography, telecommunications, statesmen, and women.
Because this collection includes works published in the
eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries, it offers
a broad overview of available knowledge at the time of
publication. |
