Almanacs:
|
Almanacs,
considered to be one of the earliest types of reference
books or pamphlets, are believed by scholars to have been
created by ancient Persian astrologers for navigational
purposes. Almanacs have been consulted over the
centuries by people looking for information on a wide
variety of subjects, most notably those that relate to
astronomy, astrology, important dates and events in the
ecclesiastical calendar, weather predictions, cycles of
the seasons and practical advice for domestic/everyday
life. These annual publications are still being
produced today, and have expanded with time to cover not
only the traditional almanac topics, but also geographical,
political, statistical, economical and historical information.
The Henry Ford holds
a collection of 1225+ almanacs that date from the late
18th century to the present. |
