Edison Institute Archives:
|
When
Henry Ford established the museum complex
in 1929, he named it the Edison Institute
in honor of his friend and mentor, Thomas
Edison. The Edison Institute continues
to be the museum's legal name. The Edison
Institute Archives documents the growth and
development of the museum and village, the
school system established by Henry Ford and
the new Henry
Ford Academy that opened in the fall of
1997. Of special interest here are the Edison
Institute House boxes, which contain materials
that document the history of each Greenfield
Village structure and the design and construction
of the museum building. This documentation
includes photographs, letters, deeds of purchase
and various correspondences.
