Tractors:

American farm tractors became popular about 1905, but like many new technologies the machines took time to be accepted.  Many early tractors weighed five tons or more, but by 1920 most machines weighed under two tons. By 1930, the Census Bureau began recording enormous annual declines in the population of farm horses. However, it wasn't until 1954 that more farmers used tractors than horses.
