Hi I am 25 my first car when i was 17 was a 1986 ford taurus LX with a 3.0L V-6. i drove that car until 21 and 139000 miles. i must have fixe just about every little thing on it. I had a good junk yard that had rows of them. it also save me from a pretty good crash. but any way when i got married we got a new truck we moved and some body bouht the taurus for $750. and drove it away. in 1997 we got a brand new taurs LX. we loved it it had everything. Our family was growing bigger with two boys and two dogs. so in 2000 we traded it in for a 2000 F-150 4x4. i though the taurs days were over. we could never go back to a car. but my friend at worksaid he has an old 1986 MT5 that has not been moved or ran i a year. so i gave him $200 and draged it home. it was running the next week and i was driving it as a second putt mobile. this car was in great condition for an 86. it broght back some memories of the old times. the taurus's never left me walking. i always drove them home.

I say + because I'm not exactly sure- the speedometer only works intermittently, going weeks or months working and then cutting out for weeks or months. I don't know. Anyway though it's a great car, I have had it over 2 years, and aside from the speedometer the only major thing that has gone wrong is that i needed to have the head gaskets replaced. But when that was done my mechanic told me the lower engine looks to be in good shape, as do the heads and valves and such, so I am looking forward to owning it for a long time to come. My very first question if someone could help me out, what does the L stand for? The car is very very basic and I updated it a bit myself. The car had a REAL bad stalling problem, but we fixed it, spark plugs weren't getting enough electricity to them. But anyway, that car is so indestructable, well not really. once a garbage truck smashed the back of my car when it was parked and insurance told me it was totaled. so upset, i said forget the insurance... and paid a ton of money to get a new back on my car. so the whole back is shiny and new in 99. however, i was once rear-ended at a red light, where the whole front of the car behind me was shoved in to match my bumper and nothing was done to my car. and then once again when i got rear ended... the car that caused it was totaled, the car it his was dented and scratched, and my car (which was in the very front) skidded a few feet and drove away fine. The car has been called two tons of death for its ability to handle ANYTHING tossed it's way, mostly the incredibly high speed bumps at my school hit at 25 miles per hour. however... part of my car fell off today, when i went back to get it about 15 minutes later i couldn't find it, i ended up finding something lord knows if it is part of my car... but thats ok anyway. While the car does really weird stuff sometimes, i love it to bits and even when i do get my 1995 SHO, i will keep it. im thinking parking it in my backyard for the rest of my life, to remind me when i am all grown up about all the fun we had in that damn car. However, it just fell apart after that. (I don't recommended electronic clusters....a bad speedo gave me my first speeding ticket). Head gaskets, waterpumps, oil changes, brakes....at least a learned a lot about cars. I guess a good place to start. I now have a '92 SHO that has given me much satisfaction. Power under the hood sure changes a person's outlook on cars. The 3.0L YAMAHA 220HP DOHC 5spd can really haul. Its fully loaded with just over 100,000mi. Unfortunately, Ford discontined them.... What a shame. I'll be hanging on to my SHO for many years. Seth H. CT USA - Friday, February 04, 2000 at 23:02:53 (EST) I have a Silver 1989 Ford Taurus LX with the 3.8 engine. I bought the car with 55,000 miles on it 6-16-99 and it currently has 63,489 miles on it. The car was an old couples car loaded with options, and in mint condition. It was garage kept and, and was professionaly taken cared of. I love the car and have tried treating it as it was still at home. It was loaded with all possible options except the floor shift option. It also has a passenger 6-way power seat with "lumbar". Very rare in 89 Tauruses, at least where I live. I'am planning to turn this car into a collector car, "possibly" since it's in such good condition. 1st generation Tauruses rule! Steven S. I did have to replace the transmission at 60k but other than that it still is a reliable car. The hood is white, the body is gold and the front bumper is bent at an angle and I would never trade the car. I hope to drive it "till the wheels fall off" Ben Anderson San Antonio, tx usa - Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at 20:26:17 (EST) We bought an extremely nice mettalic blue 1988 Taurus gl in 1990 with 20 K miles in perfect condition (Lease return). It was built in Chicago and had power seats and "lace" alloy wheels. It was the nicest, most rattle free, best built car I have ever owned. The 3.0 v6 burned no oil, and ran like a dream. One day my wife was on a business trip and was involved in a 60 mph head-on collision with an 86 buick century. The Buick was completely destroyed back to the firewall. The taurus, While compressed and deformed a bit, was still intact structurally. She had her seat belt on and walked away from the crash, with relatively minor injuries. Our blue Taurus was totaled. That car saved her life. I still miss it. Our current 95 Taurus gl is also a well made chicago built Ford, and is a very high quality vehicle. It is fully loaded with every possible option availiable in 1987(digital dash, digitalclimate control, leather, sunroof, pwr locks,windows,seats, keyless entry and a lot more) It currently has 165,258. The only major problem with the car is that the trans. went at 160,000 miles, but who can complain when it has been driven that long. It recently rolled 225,000 and is still going strong. I did have to rebuild the tranny at 219,000. I was told that they usually only last about 60,000 before they puke. These things are bulletproof and I intend on passing it along to my son who is looking at appearance parts and rims. It steadily dominates all vehicles on the road. In the Taurusaurus's latest triumph, the legend embarassed and healthfully destroyed a Ford Expedition in a drag race, even with my friend, a far less experienced Taurus pilot at the helm. I love this car because it was actuly designed with me in mind. The styling and design are so interesting for a car from 1986. My car has almost the same features as Dan Hyson, with exception to the power seat. My parents bought the car when I was a kid, after seeing RoboCop, and reading Consumer Reports. The car is still running at over 100,000 and has been driven as far north as Canada and as far south as Florida. I plan to keep the car untill it dies! The color is gray w/ gray interior as well. It has power windows, locks, drivers seat, side mirrors, remote trunk and of course the engine is the 3.0 V-6 w/ all power! My grandparents then gave me the car for my 17th birthday. I was really happy. The car now still has 85,000 original miles on it. I have had the car up to 120 m.p.h. Why you are saying? I raced a Taurus SHO, 1995, and I beat him by the luck of traffic patterns. That was the only time in its whole life that it was tested to the max. It ran smooth at the sustained speed for 15 miles.
