The Early Years:
On December 17, 1895, the Photochrom Company of Detroit filed incorporation papers with the State of Michigan. Although officially maintaining the Photochrom Company name, the company was known as the Detroit Photographic Company from 1898 until 1906 when it went by the name of the Detroit Publishing Company.

Although incorporated as the Photochrom Company of Detroit in 1895, the company did not file its first annual report with the State of Michigan until 1897.  Dated February 26, 1898, it described the company's financial status during 1897.  Of the four original stockholders, only Edwin H. Husher remained with the company at the time of their first annual report. Paul F. Wild and the Photoglob Company of Zurich, Switzerland as well as William Livingstone, Jr., were among the stockholders.
