With Father’s Day fast approaching, Ford’s licensed-merchandise business is kicking into high gear. Ford is one of the largest licensors in the car business, with more than 45 million Ford-branded items sold in 2011 and total retail sales of approximately $1.5 billion. Now, with favorability of Ford and its trademark Blue Oval at an all-time high, the company is working to expand its merchandising business even more. Ford is moving into new categories from cologne to custom-designed garages, and placing Ford-branded items into some unexpected locations including such retailers as Banana Republic and Forever 21.
