Changing your oil and filter regularly keeps your engine clean. And, your engine will be thoroughly lubricated, helping it run more efficiently. In fact, using the grade of oil recommended by your owner's guide and scheduled maintenance can improve your gas mileage by as much as 2 percent (source: www.fueleconomy.gov)!
Change Frequency
To help keep your engine running optimally, we generally recommend getting an oil change every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.
If you drive your vehicle under tougher conditions, you should change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles or every three months, whichever comes first. "Tougher conditions" means that you regularly do any of the following:
- Tow or carry heavy loads
- Idle or drive at low speeds for long distances
- Drive in dusty conditions
- Drive off-road frequently
- Use E85 fuel more than 50% of the time
The best thing you can do for your vehicle is to get scheduled maintenance at the Dealership. Every maintenance schedule includes oil changes each maintenance interval.
Between visits, you can check the level of oil in your vehicle and add more as necessary. Be sure you use the right viscosity grade of Motorcraft oil—you'll get peak performance at different temperatures. Check your owner's guide to find the correct oil for your vehicle.
Getting an Oil Change at the Dealership
Your scheduled maintenance visits at the Dealership every 3,000 or 5,000 miles not only include an oil and filter change—you'll also get a multi-point inspection by experts with the most up-to-date training on your vehicle.
In addition to the multi-point inspection, our technicians will use the oil formulated specifically for your vehicle—Motorcraft® Synthetic Blend Oil. It contains special anti-wear additives to protect your engine and minimize wear. It also keeps your engine running as efficiently and as clean as possible.
