BRENTWOOD, Essex, Monday, 15 June, 2009 – Ford has made a smooth-shifting new addition to the Fiesta range, in the form of the new Durashift automatic transmission models.
The refined transmission is matched to the Ford Fiesta’s new 1.4-litre, 96PS Duratec petrol engine, with a responsive character that benefits from new Fiesta’s lighter yet stronger body structure, being approximately 40kg lighter than the car it replaced.
This ensures ‘auto’ convenience does not significantly compromise performance or economy, with new Fiesta automatic achieving 0-62mph in 13.9sec, while delivering 43.4mpg and a CO2 rating of 154g/km on the EU combined driving cycle.1
Beyond core performance, development work has also refined the Ford Fiesta’s accelerator pedal response and created a sporty driving quality, present even with the automatic transmission.
The car’s electronic throttle is tuned to respond differently, depending on how much and how sharply it is applied. More aggressive throttle inputs generate a sharper, sportier response, while gentle throttle inputs deliver a smoother, progressive feel.
The 1.4-litre automatic completes the Fiesta’s UK engine and transmission line-up and is offered with Style+, Zetec and Titanium trim, bringing Fiesta style to a new group of customers.
Ford Fiesta product manager, Chris Meurs, commented: “Typcially, around 10 per cent of small car buyers specify an auto option, so convenience technology is an important addition to a range that now offers an option for every taste and need.”
Fiesta 1.4-litre automatic is on sale now, priced from £13,195 on-the-road.
