GLEN WOOD – Wood Brothers Racing, NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee – TO BE RECOGNIZED IN THIS WAY HAS GOT TO BE A TREMENDOUS HONOR FOR YOU. “It certainly is. There are so many people that are eligible and qualified to be in the top 25, and for me to one of them is just unbelievable to me.”
“It’s hard for me to believe that I was even in the top 25. I know we’ve been at it a long time – as a lot of others have, too. There are just so many great ones out there, that I’m just proud to be a part of this top 25.”
MORE ON THE NOMINATION. “This is icing on the cake, you might say. It all started back in 1950 with a Ford car, a ’38 model. And, of course, it went on from that, several years of just Sportsman Modified racing, until I got a call from Ford Motor Company in ’56 to join the convertible division that had just been formed. That was sort of our start with Ford, which has been behind us from then to now. It’s just been a big ride for us to have accomplished what we have.”
WILL YOU GO TO THE NEW NASCAR HALL OF FAME TO SEE THE EXHIBITS OF THOSE YOU COMPETED AGAINST? “Actually, that would be a big highlight to do that. I drove back with so many of the great ones in the early years, that lot of people today don’t remember or never saw race, and a lot of them are gone now. I’m one of the few that’s still around and involved in racing, and when that museum opens, I will be one of the first down there to see all of that. It’s going to be quite a thing.”
YOU HAVE BEEN INDUCTED INTO OTHER HALLS OF FAME. CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE FEELING OF VISITING A HALL OF FAME AND SEEING ALL OF THESE GREAT RACERS, AND THEN YOU GO AROUND A CORNER AND SEE AN EXHIBIT ABOUT YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS? “Well, it’s kind of chilling, I guess; that would be the word for me. It’s such a big thing and I’m just so humbled by the fact that I’m a part of it, and it’s just hard for me to believe.”
WHEN WILL WE SEE YOU AT THE TRACK AGAIN? “I’ve been to Daytona every year since 1947, so I’m going to try to make it back again next year.”
