Job Description The Diesel OBD Technical Specialist will have a major responsibility across global Powertrain Engineering for reviewing regulatory requirements and leading the technology solutions (especially new hardware and software) for North American markets.
The expert will take a leadership role in negotiating and communicating with government agencies (CARB & EPA), most importantly regarding OBD and certification requirements for diesel products with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) and Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) devices.
The expert will coordinate global diesel OBD and certification requirements and lead efforts to guarantee Ford Diesel Engine Controls (FDEC) software contains all necessary capabilities.
The expert will lead global diesel OBD calibration guide development and global diesel OBD DV efficiency efforts.
The expert will lead global diesel OBD calibration Technical Maturity and training efforts.
The expert will lead development of all DVP&R, FMEA, documentation, and reporting tools and ensure process discipline is followed globally.
The expert will lead resolution of emerging QSF and other OPD issues related to Diesel OBD.
The expert will lead functional safety sign off
The expert will lead tool development specific to Diesel OBD
Required Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree
5+ years of experience in On-Board Diagnostics for automotive applications
Preferred Qualifications
Position is in Diesel Feature Calibration Department and will work closely with Diesel Commodity Calibration team in Dearborn along with all other Global Diesel Calibration teams certifying diesel powertrains for North American markets.
MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Demonstrated leadership in the fields of diesel calibration and/or On-Board Diagnostics
In-depth understanding of diesel engine controls, emissions components, and test methods.
Strong communication skills, including experience communicating with industry consortiums, university researchers, and/or government agencies
Ability to lead and mentor engineers and co-workers.
Must be able to take complex issues and simplify to pass/fail requirements.
