Job Description Ford’s Autonomous Vehicle Systems Engineering (AVSE) team is responsible for all system engineering and technical direction for Ford’s autonomous vehicle project. The AVSE team is seeking new team members to help our group develop new AV functionality in support of Transportation-as-a-Service (TaaS). Designing an AV to support a “service” requires several new (non-typical) features/functions to be deployed by both the Vehicle and Cloud environments. Successful candidates will be those who have the ability to operate in very dynamic environment and can handle a wide variety of tasks. They will be effective communicators, able to work with and pull together various work-streams throughout the company.
Responsibilities will include:
Leverage a model based approach to architecting, defining, and analyzing complex systems involving a mix of hardware and controls for new AV technologies.
Develop core systems engineering work products for systems development including: architecture analysis, use cases, strategy, descriptive and analytical models, requirements, interface matrices, and robustness & verification work products.
Support the quality and functional safety processes (FMEAs, P-diagrams, change control, HARA, STPA, etc.)
Perform design verification tests on prototype vehicles or constituent systems, analyze results, provide recommendations and drive to implementation.
Perform competitive analyses and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in autonomous driving technologies in the automotive domain.
Lead/support cross-functional initiatives to drive solutions for the AV project
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical/Systems Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience leveraging Systems Engineering principles
2+ years of experience working in/with large, complex organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Engineering degree in related field.
Experience with model based systems engineering: SysML/MagicDraw
Experience with Agile tools: JIRA, RALLY
Understanding of ISO26262
Possess strong written & oral communication skills
Experience developing complex/distributed systems
Experience in verification techniques (DVMs, Data Acquisition/Analysis)
Understanding of typical vehicle communication protocols/interfaces: CAN, CANFD, LIN, MOST, LVDS, Automotive Ethernet, etc.
Experience with model based design: Matlab/Simulink/StateFlow
Experience with rapid prototyping environments: dSPACE ControlDesk, MicroAutoBox, etc.
Experience with robustness engineering principles/tools: DFMEA, P-Diagrams, etc.
