Job Description We are looking for an individual with a deep understanding of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and aerodynamics with a background of writing and developing code to support the implementation of CFD. The individual needs to be self-directed, confident and resilient with good interpersonal skills.
In this position you will partner with experts in both computational and experimental methods to support the prediction of vehicle aerodynamic performance and drive aerodynamically efficient designs from initial concept through production verification. You will utilize your excellent work planning and issue resolution skills as you oversee the integration of code to support vehicle aerodynamics development, including the evaluation of both physical and analytical models.
You will draw insights from computational and physical evaluations to further accelerate the use of advanced CFD and supporting codes to bring more aerodynamically efficient vehicles to the consumer.
You will utilize your communication and team skills to interface with others in the Ford aerodynamics development team and its offices in the USA, Germany, Brazil, Australia and Mexico. The different locations work together, developing and deploying state of the art tools and methods, to deliver industry leading products on a global basis.
Position Duties:
Support development, enhancements and deployment of new analytical methods and processes related to vehicle aerodynamic development
Direct application of analytical methods to support aerodynamic development on vehicle programs
Support wind tunnel testing when required
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with a strong focus on computational fluid dynamics or related technical field
2+ years in application, deployment and development of CFD methods and processes through the utilization and scripting of Python and/or JAVA codes
2+ years in aerodynamics applications of CFD
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering with a strong focus on computational fluid dynamics
Proficiency in one or more of the following CFD codes: OpenFOAM, CCM+, PowerFLOW.
Proficiency in deploying / compiling scripts on HPC system
Proficiency with GitHub for tracking and maintaining scripts
Proficiency in one of the following CAD tools: ANSA, CATIA
Proficiency in one or more of the following post-processing tools: Ensight, ParaView
Proficiency in the following statistical analysis tools: ModeFrontier, MiniTab
A strong understanding of vehicle aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics
Self-directed, confident and resilient individual with excellent personal communication skills
Excellent work planning, issue resolution skills
