Job Description
Ford’s re-entry program is a temporary assignment for those with an extended employment break (2 or more years) in their field who are looking to re-launch their careers. This is a supplemental position with provisions and benefits different from a regular full-time position. All positions are expected to begin in Fall 2017, and have a six-month duration. Upon successful completion of the program, a full-time employment offer could be made.

Position Overview/Description:

This position will work with cross functional teams to deliver improved thermal management (engine, electrified powertrain, and climate) for next generation electrified vehicles including Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Battery Electric Vehicles.

This assignment will challenge your ability to work across multiple functions and in non-traditional environments. The Electrified Powertrain Engineering Climate & Thermal Team is at the center of delivering the next generation of electrified vehicles for Ford.

Our diverse electrified thermal system team – situated in greater Detroit, is comprised of engineers with experience in thermal management in climate control. Together our team works to understand changing electrification technology, identify new opportunities, and take action to design and innovate for the future of mobility.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading thermal system architecture analysis for next generation electrified vehicles
  • Lead cross functional analysis efforts, including working with tool creators in Ford Research to develop needed analytical tool sets
  • Work with cross functional teams to unify requirements and ensure overall quality of project solutions throughout the design process
  • Develop solutions that minimize the impact on vehicle energy consumption for varying drive cycles
  • Work with the Climate team to perform hardware selection early in the program
  • Work with the Electrical and Climate Controls teams to optimize serial communications with the Electrified Powertrain


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years experience applying thermodynamics to automotive thermal management

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 1+ years controls systems background
  • Working knowledge of thermal/CFD simulation tools (ACSIM, UH3D, Fluent, MATLAB)
  • Functional knowledge of automotive product development methodology
  • Working knowledge of vehicle and climate control calibration
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to interface with several teams
