Job Description Position Overview/Description: We are seeking an Electric Drive (eDrive) CAE Model Development Engineer to join our team. This individual will be a member of our eDrive team, which is part of Ford’s global Center of Excellence in developing electric drive technologies. This role interacts with cross-functional teams including; power electronics, traction motor hardware, motor controls and many other teams within the Electrified Powertrain organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly qualified and motivated engineer to become part of a diverse team of experts tasked with developing future generations of advanced electrified powertrains.
The position will be located in Dearborn MI.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Power Electronic, Motor Hardware and Controls engineers to develop system-level Electric Drive (eDrive) models
Developing advanced CAE tools to perform eDrive architecture and component sizing studies for future xEV programs under consideration
Developing processes and CAE toolsets to improve the analysis of prototype vehicle and dynamometer test data
Supporting studies of various eDrive architectures with performance and efficiency analysis
Developing techniques to optimize eDrive-level control system operation
Perform various analytical studies; prepare detailed reports and present results at technical design review meetings
Collaborate with engineers across the electrified powertrain organization to share best practices and modeling techniques for developing a robust portfolio of CAE-based analytical tools
Establish self as the go-to engineer for developing system-level models and conducting analytical studies within the Core eDrive Systems team
Job Requirements Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
1+ year of experience developing CAE-based models
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science Degree in Engineering
2+ years’ experience developing CAE-based models
Excellent first-principle understanding of electromechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation
Strong technical competence in developing system models and conducting advanced CAE analysis
Experience developing detailed Hybrid / xEV powertrain models using MATLAB and Simulink
Experience developing advanced MATLAB scripts
Strong problem solving skills and ability to understand and manage complex systems
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated, eager to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision
Excellent written & verbal communication skills
