To encourage community efforts to create wildlife sites and educational programs about the importance of preserving endangered species, we joined with the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) to establish the Wildlife at Work program at Ford facilities.
Get Wild at Work
Wildlife at Work encourages employees to participate in a wildlife management team at their work site. Wildlife management teams establish, develop and manage a wildlife program, working toward WHC certification.
We now have 17 global facilities that have achieved WHC certification as wildlife habitat sites. These sites range in size from 5 to 100 acres and include ecosystems as diverse as wetlands, woodland, prairie, meadow and forest.
Wildlife at Work habitat sites are maintained by Ford employees, often in association with local civic and education groups. Many of the facilities have built nature trails, erected bird and bat houses and planted wildflower gardens in addition to establishing wildlife habitats. Employees have also developed community education programs to encourage a broader understanding of the importance of corporate wildlife sanctuaries.
About Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC)
WHC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the quality and quantity of wildlife habitat on corporate, private and public lands. The WHC certification program recognizes outstanding wildlife habitat management and environmental education efforts at corporate sites and offers third-party validation of the benefits of such programs.
