Our continued involvement with DAPCEP has provided Ford engineers and senior management the opportunity to inspire the next generation of technical leaders and give back to the youth of southeast Michigan.
Preparing Students for Challenging Careers
DAPCEP achieves results by offering intensive educational programming in STEM fields by experienced professionals and instructors. In addition to classroom-based instruction, students are encouraged to gain hands-on experience in real-world work environments.
DAPCEP began by providing academic programming to 245 students from 2 Detroit-area schools. Today, DAPCEP serves more than 4,000 students annually. DAPCEP has touched the lives of more than 150,000 youth during its 31 years of service.
DAPCEP has been cited by regional and national organizations as a model for inspiring, preparing and motivating youth to seriously consider a career in STEM fields.
Ford Employees Support DAPCEP
Ford employees support the DAPCEP initiative by developing and teaching Saturday Enrichment Classes, assisting teachers with lesson plans and working one-on-one with students to develop "soft skills" such as public speaking, time management and resume writing.
Our relationship with DAPCEP was awarded a multiyear grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant provides educational exposure to the world of information technology to seventh- and ninth-grade students.
