Leadership development is important for the success and future of the Latino community. We support the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) in order to promote leadership among Latino youth.
Supporting Leadership Development Among Latino Youth
The Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program offers invaluable insight to Hispanic students who want to gain first-hand experience on how the federal government works and public policy is shaped. The eight college students chosen to participate in this program travel to Washington, DC to work with members of Congress of Latino and Portuguese origin for six weeks.
Once in Washington, DC, students attend professional development workshops and visit government agencies and departments. The Latino students also have an opportunity to meet with important diplomatic and international organizations and community leaders.
The leadership program also provides Latino students with assistance to cover their travel and lodging expenses in Washington, DC. Students receive a Washington, DC metro card, and a $2,000 stipend. Through collaboration with Dell, participants in the leadership program receive a complimentary laptop computer.
