MARCOS AMBROSE – No. 59 STP Ford Fusion – YOU’VE GOT A NEW LOOK THIS WEEK. “It’s really exciting to have a brand like STP. It’s such a famous name in racing and such a famous brand that really hasn’t changed an awful lot from when it first came on to the market. It’s a unique product. It’s very special. I know it’s got heritage with the Pettys. It’s a something that I take seriously and I really want to do the STP brand proud. It’s part of the Clorox group now. They’ve owned it for several years. I think it’s a great, exciting, fun thing that we’re doing this weekend. I’ve already taken ownership of my race suit. I have a STP race suit up in the cab, it’s pretty cool.”
IS IT PETTY BLUE? “No, they didn’t go Petty blue. We’re very careful not to take away from the heritage that the Petty name has with the STP brand. So we’ve got the red car here this weekend, red and blue, and the suit is red. We’re trying to be just a little different because we don’t want to cut anyone’s grass. When you think of STP, you think of the Pettys, you think the King and we don’t want to take that away. We’re doing our own little thing. We’re just trying to expose the brand again, give it a little bit of a push out there in the marketplace. We’re doing it with the red car that they did run a little bit when it first started.”
ON RACING AT KENTUCKY. “Yeah, the tracks really blend into each other. It’s such a typical sport at the Nationwide level and above when you race against these Cup teams and Cup drivers. It’s not about the track. It’s about the set-up and what you’ve got and what you think you need. I think this weekend it’s going to be good for us. We’ve had three, four really good weeks on a new style of race car and the way we set it up. We really good break out this weekend. The track suits me for some reason. I’ve got a pole here in the truck series and finished third here in the truck race. I’ve had good experiences here and hopefully it will come back and be good for me again.”
KENTUCKY HAS THE REPUTATION OF BEING A BREAKOUT WIN TRACK. “It’s only breakout because there are only five Cup guys. When I finish 10th, 13th, 14th, right in the middle of all the Cup guys, I still feel good about it. Coming here for a win is great to put on your résumé, it really is, but it’s not a fair reflection on where the Nationwide Series is right now because we normally have 20 odd Cup guys in the event. It is a place that you can breakout, standout and get some TV time, which is important. We want to do that. We want to demonstrate that we’re up for it and ready for it. I’m looking forward to it. We’re running the Charlotte car here this weekend and it’s my favorite car. Plus, this is one of the newest car we’ve got in the shop and it’s one of my favorites.”
