David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion, posted the sixth-fastest speed in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series happy hour on Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway. Gilliland spoke about how the conditions for tomorrow’s race will change due to the rain that started falling at the end of practice.
DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion – “It’s definitely gonna be a little bit different. It’s gonna be a little hard on tires at the beginning. When we got here we had a green track and saw a lot of tire wear, so it’s just something we’re gonna have to keep an eye on, but I’m real happy with our freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion. It’s running really, really good and it’s very consistent throughout a long run. It’s got speed at the beginning of a run and it drives good, so, right now, I can’t find anything wrong with our car. It runs really, really good. Now we’re just gonna check and double-check everything and we feel really good about the position we’ve put ourselves in for Sunday’s race.”
THE RAINOUT OF QUALIFYING MEANS YOU’LL START TOWARDS THE BACK. THAT’S TOUGH AT A SMALL TRACK LIKE THIS. “It’s just about patience. Anytime you come to Bristol it’s patience, especially when you have a car as good as we feel like we have. It’s just gonna take some time. I’ve got a great crew chief in Cully Barraclough and he’s got his stuff together on pit strategy and things like that, so I’m sure you’ll see a little bit of that. Like I said, the biggest thing is patience and keeping the fenders on it so you can slowly but surely move your way to the front.”
