ATLANTA, April 18, 2008 – With the Transit Connect, Ford has created a brand new prescription for Forsyth County’s Lakeside Pharmacy, which offers free delivery to its patients.
Dr. Apollon Constantinides followed in his father’s footsteps when he opened Lakeside Pharmacy adjacent to the Northside Forsyth Hospital north of Atlanta. His father also was a pharmacist, who owned and operated multiple pharmacies in Atlanta. Dr. Constantinides decided from the start that the pharmacy would deliver to its patients free of charge.
“At my father’s pharmacy, there was a delivery man who had worked there almost all of his life, and who used to deliver prescriptions on his bicycle,” explains Constantinides. “It was that kind of service that I grew up with and that I wanted to give my patients. With an average of 100 deliveries a day, I think that I was right in recognizing that patients want this type of service.”
With five full-time drivers, Lakeside Pharmacy relies on its small trucks to deliver prescriptions, medications and medical equipment across Forsyth County. Since the pharmacy opened in 2001, the number of deliveries increased substantially starting with just one vehicle. In that time Dr. Constantinides has learned what to look for in a vehicle.
“First is the gas mileage because prices are skyrocketing,” he says. “Next is maneuverability and loading capacity, or in other words how it meets our needs. Third is durability. And finally, I look for a vehicle that is stylish and will reflect our image.”
“We’ve always compromised on one or the other because no vehicle was fully engineered for our type of usage. With the Transit Connect, we can have it all,” continued Constantinides. “It combines fuel efficiency with loading capacity. Its reliability has been proven in Europe, and the design is ideal for logo placement.”
Dr. Constantinides’ life work is making sure patients have the right prescriptions. If transportation were an illness, the Transit Connect would be its remedy.
