EDWARDS QUALIFIES FOURTH FOR ATLANTA SPRINT CUP RACE

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion (Qualified 31st) – “We’ve struggled all day with our freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion, but we made some good changes there.  I felt like that was a good pickup for us.  We had an early draw for qualifying, which is not what you want, but it’s not bad.  It’s a good pickup for us, so I’m happy.”

CARL EDWARDS – No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion (Qualified 4th) – “There was just a little bit too much rain.  I ran that first lap pretty hard and then I just kind of puttered around that second lap.  I was trying to see how much the car would change, but that’s really a pretty good lap for us.  The old duck wouldn’t mind water, but it’s not good for racing.  It’s just sprinkling enough that I was tentative, but we still got a good lap in.  Our Aflac Fusion is pretty good.  I’m glad the fans came out for this tonight.  It’s always exciting.  Something is gonna happen to make this an exciting night.  I hope nobody wrecks because of the rain.”  YOU SPENT A LOT OF TIME TALKING TO THE PRESS TODAY.  “Yeah, just for reasons that don’t effect us on the race track, so it’s great for me to be able to get in the race car, get out here and do what I love to do and I’m just really proud of my guys for keeping their heads up this week in spite of everything that’s gone on.  We’ve got a fast race car.  It was really good in race trim, so I’m ready to race.”

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion (Qualified 14th) – “From where we started out in practice, I’ll take that.  The first two laps in practice the car was just really a handful.  Jimmy and all the guys on the AAA team threw a lot at it and we’ve got a decent race car.  We still have some progress to make.  We’d still like to be up there another three or four tenths, but we’ve still got Saturday and Sunday morning to make some adjustments on the car.  I feel like we’ll be fine.  Certainly, 500 miles is a long race and hopefully that will stand for a top 20 starting spot.”

GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 Jackson Hewitt Ford Fusion (Qualified 13th) – “I’ve got a really fast car.  That just goes to show you, I came all the way out of the gas and touched the fence and had to just throw away that lap and try for the second lap and that was still 12th-quick, so I’ve got a really, really fast car.  The track was just a little goofy today.  We just didn’t get a hold of it.  We were afraid of being too loose and we were too tight on our qualifying runs.  We thought the track would come to us without freeing it up and it didn’t really come to us enough, but now we know.  We learned something.”

BILL ELLIOTT – No. 21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion (DNQ) – “It’s just a really frustrating deal.  I’m really at a loss because the guys are working so hard and we just can’t seem to get things figured out.  I really hate it for the Wood Brothers because they’re such great people, but all we can do is go back to the shop and try to get better.  We’ll go to Bristol next week and give it another shot.”
